The caregivers are the robots designed to look after us. Some are humanoid robots that assist medical staff with logistics and heavy lifting; others are companion robots whose whole purpose is presence, conversation and reassurance. What unites this family is a calling: to help people feel safe, supported and less alone.

Their real-world work is wonderfully varied. In elderly care, they offer companionship, reminders and a friendly routine. In hospitals and clinics, they fetch, carry and free nurses to do what only humans can. Others specialise in rehabilitation and mobility support, helping patients relearn how to stand, walk and trust their bodies again. Many quietly monitor vital signs, flagging trouble before it becomes an emergency, while home care models bring a measure of independence back to people living on their own.
